Manchester Photography Workshops – FAQs
Looking to improve your photography skills with a Small group photography workshop in Manchester city centre? Below are some frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your session.
How big are your photography workshops?
All group workshops are delivered on small group basis, giving you a fully personalised experience.
This allows us to focus entirely on your goals—whether that’s learning the basics, improving your composition, or mastering techniques like street or long exposure photography in Manchester.
Do I need to have the latest camera?
No—you don’t need the latest or most expensive equipment.
If you’re attending a beginner photography workshop, any camera that allows control over aperture, shutter speed, and ISO will work perfectly.
For intermediate or advanced sessions, DSLR or mirrorless cameras are common, but the emphasis is always on developing your skills, not upgrading your gear.
What equipment should I bring?
Please bring:
- Your camera and lenses
- A fully charged battery (plus a spare if possible)
- A memory card with plenty of space
A tripod will be necessary if you’d like to practise long exposure photography, particularly for capturing movement and light in Manchester city centre.
If you don’t own a tripod, don’t worry—I have a hire unit available, just let me know in advance.
What should I wear for a Manchester photography workshop?
We’ll be walking around Manchester city centre, so comfort is key.
- Wear comfortable footwear suitable for walking
- Dress for the weather (layers are recommended)
- Bring a waterproof jacket—Manchester weather can be unpredictable
All locations are well paved and easily accessible, so no specialist outdoor clothing is required.
How much walking is involved?
During the 4-hour session, we may cover a couple of miles around Manchester city centre.
The pace is relaxed with regular stops for shooting and discussion, and there are no hills involved. The route is designed to be enjoyable rather than physically demanding.
Do I need to be fit?
No high level of fitness is required.
As long as you’re comfortable walking short distances at a steady pace, you’ll be absolutely fine. If you have any concerns, just get in touch beforehand and I can tailor the workshop to suit your needs and abilities.
What else should I bring?
It’s a good idea to bring:
- A drink and light snack
- Any personal items or medication you may need
- A small bag to carry your gear comfortably
We’ll be out and about for a few hours, so being prepared will help you stay focused on enjoying the experience.
Where do the workshops take place?
